Spring Term

We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break and the children are well rested and ready to get stuck into the new term and new year.

Topics

This half term our topic is ‘Under the Sea.’ We will be reading ‘The Storm Whale’, ‘The Storm Whale in Winter’. We will also be looking at some non-fiction texts about sea creatures.

Understanding the World

Through a range of activities the children will be learning about creatures that live under the sea and comparing their similarities and differences.

Mathematics

Every week there will be a maths focus, and we will combine whole class teaching with small group work.  This term we will be developing the children’s confidence in counting, number recognition and addition and subtraction.  We will also be looking at shape and time. There will also be lots of opportunities for children to apply their knowledge of number through challenges and problem solving activities.

Physical Education

We will continue to have a PE session every Monday ran by coach Elliot from Manchester City.

Letters and Sounds

This term the children will begin to work through Phase 3 of the Letters and Sounds programme.  This will focus on learning the phonemes (sounds) which correspond to single graphemes (letters).  They will learn how to blend sounds together to read simple words, and to segment or break up words into separate sounds in order to write them.

This half term we have been learning all about families. We have also been reading 'Owl Babies'

Arts week!

We created cityscape pictures of Manchester.

Wonderful writing

Fun Outside!

Marvellous Maths

Welcome to Reception Class!

We hope you have all had a lovely summer break. We are really looking forward to getting to know our new class and we know it is going to be a great start to the year with lots of exciting learning opportunities.  Our primary aim over the next few weeks is to ensure that the children are happy to come to school, and that they feel safe and secure.  We will be supporting those children who are new to the school in making new friends and feeling confident in their new environment.

Our topic this half term is Me and My Family. Through a range of activities the children will be learning about families, and similarities and differences between them.  We will be talking about where in the world our families come from, and where we have visited.
