School Council

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL COUNCIL AND WHY DO WE HAVE ONE?

 

The school council is made up of different children from Year 2 to Year 6.

It has a chairperson, a secretary, a treasurer and councilors.

 

It meets to discuss ways in which every day life and routine in school could be improved. It is the children’s voice on the decisions which affect their school lives and the development of the school.

 

WHAT ARE THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SCHOOL COUNCIL?

 

  • To express both their own views and those of other children.
  • To communicate their feelings to adults.
  • To attend regular meetings.
  • To give up some of their personal time.
  • To help make positive changes.

 

 

WHAT QUALITIES DOES A SCHOOL COUNCILLOR NEED?

 

To be a good school councilor you need to be:

  • Good listener.
  • Sensitive speaker.
  • Trustworthy.
  • Helpful.
  • Committed.
  • Reliable.
  • Honest.
  • A good role model.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Ability to share good ideas.
  • Ability to discuss and not argue.
  • A willingness to develop skills such as confidence, communications and negotiation.
