Summer 2

Welcome back!

Can you believe it is Summer 2 already? It seems like only a few weeks ago the little Nursery squirrels were starting and getting used to their new routine!

This term we will be reading some classics including 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and 'The Great Pet Sale'. We will be talking about healthy eating, animal life cycles, caring for living creatures and looking at life cycles.

The Whitworth Art Gallery

Our end of year trip was a smashing day at the Whitworth Art Gallery. We were all very excited to start the trip by travelling on a double-decker bus!

First we went outside the gallery into the park to create sculptures and paintings in nature using lots of different materials and tools.

We plunged in paint, tangled in wool, wallowed in water, splashed, poured, built, and rolled to get the creative juices flowing! Check out our outdoor session pics here!

In our second session we worked in the textiles gallery, we explored different textiles and made snazzy bracelets. After that we looked around the exhibition of Islamic textiles and had the chance to create our own patterns based on the materials we observed.

We had a lovely picnic lunch in the sunshine with our grown ups and then had a jaunt to the park next to the gallery. Thank you to all of the parent helpers and to the wonderful gallery staff who helped make our visit an enjoyable one.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have been reading Eric Carle's masterpiece, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have been learning all about the caterpillar/butterfly life cycle, healthy eating, and making repeating patterns.

We have turned our Maths area into a fruit & veg shop and we have enjoyed shopping for fruit and vegetables, using coins and making price tags for the products.

Check out our symmetrical butterfly prints! The children painted their paper, folded it in half and voila! Beautiful butterflies!
