WELCOME YO YEAR 5
I hope you have all had a well-deserved break and enjoyed the Easter holiday. Children all seem motivated and eager to embark on their final term in Year 5 and have begun with the same enthusiasm to do well and build upon previous achievements.
All children still need to work to the very best of their capabilities. As I have previously stated, concentration and hard work will be the key to achieving their very best throughout the year. Children have thrived on the extra roles and responsibilities and I am looking for them to build upon this and become more confident young adults.
Thank you for your support with encouraging your child to complete homework and in handing it in at the appropriate time. I will ensure that the children know what the homework is but it will be the children’s responsibility to make sure they take it home at the time it is given and bring it back accordingly. This will help them become independent learners.
Please can you ensure that your child reads each night and become more fluid recalling times tables and corresponding division facts and ‘special numbers’ e.g. square numbers, square roots. Children will have a smaller number of spellings to learn based on the Year 5 & 6 spelling list. In addition they will have to learn spelling patterns or rules each half term. They then will be tested on these and other words with the same pattern or rule through a dictation test. Please can you spend time reinforcing and practising handwriting techniques throughout the week.
